RWPC Pre-Treatment Process
The purpose of pre-treatment in the powder coating process of architectural aluminium is twofold. Firstly, to protect the aluminium against corrosion and secondly, to prepare the surface to allow optimum adhesion of the paint.
RWPC operate a strictly controlled and audited 11 stage pre-treatment facility. This process gives the strength behind the guarantees by ensuring optimum adhesion of the paint film, and long term corrosion resistance.
The following are the main steps carried out with double rinsing between.
Acid Etch
Removal of swarf + aluminium oxide layer
Chromium-Phosphate Conversion
Protective coatings
Demineralised Rinse
Maintained below 30m to maximise the effect of the pervious stages
Controlled Drying
Kept below 80°C to avoid damage to the fresh Chromate layer, leaving a surface where optimum adhesion is possible
Chemetall Plc
The RWPC pre-treatment system is closely monitored by Chemetall Plc.
The Chemetall technical staff reguarlaly visit the RWPC site to audit each invidual process and to ensure consistency of performance. Chemetall are world wide leaders in the field of pre-treatment chemistry.
