Discolouration of Coating after Packaging

There is a phenomenon known as "blanching" which has been observed during the storage of powder coated items under certain conditions. The issue is well known to Southern European coaters but has been a relatively rare occurrence with coaters in Northern Europe.

The conditions for "blanching" usually exist when coated components are wrapped in polythene and any trapped humidity becomes active, usually in sunlight, and condensation conditions result. Moisture trapped within the packaging , being subject to heating and cooling, is then forced into the coating and the result can be a surface colour change similar to that seen during a permeability test. Generally there is no physical detriment to the coating and controlled reheating of the component can usually rectify the defect.
